چکیده

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is an established functional imaging modality but its practical deployment is hampered by motion artefacts. This paper proposes a method for correcting reconstructed PET images through a list-mode rebinning process. Respiratory motion is compensated for by applying 2D affine transforms to the respiratory gated sequence of line-ofresponse events prior to image reconstruction. The affine transforms are derived from a non-rigid 3D/3D registration model derived from retrospectively gated MRI acquisitions of the same patient with free-breathing. The proposed motion correction scheme is evaluated with a simulation framework where the improvement in image quality is assessed by using data acquired from 10 normal subjects.

Advanced Motion Correction Methods in PET

With the arrival of increasingly higher resolution PET systems, small amounts of motion can cause significant blurring in the images, compared to the intrinsic resolutions of the scanners. In this work, we have reviewed advanced correction methods for the three cases of (i) unwanted patient motion, as well as motions due to (ii) cardiac and (iii) respiratory cycles. For the first type of ...

Reducing the respiratory motion artifacts in PET cardiology: A simulation study

Introduction: There are several technical features that make PET an ideal device for the noninvasive evaluation of cardiac physiology. Organ motion due to respiration is a major challenge in diagnostic imaging, especially in cardiac PET imaging. These motions reduce image quality by spreading the radiotracer activity over an increased volume, distorting apparent les...

Non rigid respiratory motion correction in whole body PET/MR imaging

INSERM UMR1101, LaTIM, Brest, France Respiratory motion in PET/MR imaging leads to reduced quantitative and qualitative image accuracy. Correction methodologies include the use of respiratory synchronized gated frames which lead to low signal to noise ratio (SNR) given that each frame contains only part of the count available throughout an average PET acquisition. In this work, 4D MRI extracted...

List mode-driven cardiac and respiratory gating in PET.

UNLABELLED Gating methods acquiring biosignals (such as electrocardiography [ECG] and respiration) during PET enable one to reduce motion effects that potentially lead to image blurring and artifacts. This study evaluated different cardiac and respiratory gating methods: one based on ECG signals for cardiac gating and video signals for respiratory gating; 2 others based on measured inherent lis...

Initial evaluation of a practical PET respiratory motion correction method in clinical simultaneous PET/MRI

University College London, London, UK Respiratory motion during PET acquisitions can cause image artefacts, with sharpness and tracer quantification adversely affected due to count ‘smearing’. Motion correction by registration of PET gates becomes increasingly difficult with shorter scan times and less counts. The advent of simultaneous PET/MRI scanners allows the use of high spatial resolution...
